El Plomero — High-Speed Wahoo Trolling Lure

The El Plomero is an absolute wahoo slayer — a large, heavy-tackle, high-speed trolling lure built around a thermoplastic-coated lead head whose weight drives it deep and keeps it tracking true at speed. Tournament fishing or chasing a personal best, this is the lure serious wahoo anglers tie on first.

How do you rig the El Plomero?

Rig it with a 10/0–11/0 hookset on stainless cable with a 280 lb to 480 lb leader — wahoo teeth forgive nothing less. The head design also allows easy skirt replacement, so you can swap patterns dockside and custom-build the exact profile the bite demands without buying a second lure.

What colors does it come in?

Nine skirt options: Orange Foil, Purple Foil, Black Purple Foil, Blue, Lime Green, Green Blue, Pink Foil, Rainbow, and Red Rainbow. Dark and high-contrast patterns are long-time favorites for wahoo, while brighter combinations pull dorado and tuna into the spread.

What else does it catch?

Wahoo is the target, but dorado, yellowtail, and tuna regularly inhale the Plomero when it runs through the zone. Its little brother, the El Plomerito, covers the medium-tackle side of the family.
